Ian McCall was supposed to combat Dustin Ortiz at UFC Fight Night 73 but unfortunately had to pull out due to injury. McCall (13-5) caught up with MMAOddsBreaker on Episode 115 of The Parting Shot Podcast that Sunday to talk about his latest injury. Injury that compelled him from Dustin Ortiz fight at UFC Fight Night 73″I have a tear in my shoulder, in my labrum and a tear from my own nostrils. I mean I’m literally at the physicians now talking about it. It is what it is, we train hard and I’m brittle apparently. I have to pull from a good deal of s**t. It sucks, but when you train as hard as I do and you’ve been doing this as long as I do, its part of the match .” Career Plagued with Injuries”My UFC profession was just been plagued with accidents and it is frustrating. This is my main source of income, I still have other things I do however, this is my principal source. I’ve got a little girl to feed, that I feed on my own and it sucks. But on a different note, this really is my passion; this is precisely what I really like to perform. I am 31 years old, I’m not getting younger I’ve been in struggles for 13 decades. To see my body fail me time and time again it’s hard. It is one of these things it makes you question a good deal. I’m such a healthy individual, my household is like incredibly healthy, and you know my daughter has to have a really strict diet. I have had my hip, groin tear, that can be bad. I’m sure I will have to find a hip replacement . I’ve had three hand surgeries. I got into a car accident not long ago and messed up my shoulder. It is always a thing, but it is far better than having a real job.” Being Positive and Optimistic”Most of my life I have been a pessimist to become honest. I look at it in different ways, it might be worse, I could be dead. I could have lost full use of my arm or whatever. There are a lot of things I consider. I must maintain a positive attitude because I must be a good role model for team-mates along with my child. It’s one of those things I am not going to sit around and sulk. That is what it is, I’ll be al right.” Thoughts on Demetrious Johnson vs. John Dodson II in UFC 191″Demetrious is evolving and I think that now he has found a little more power in his punches. His entire game is always changing and getting better. I think he will beat Dodson, is he likely to finish [him]? I don’t know. I think this will be one guy he’ll have a hard time finishing. He ended Horoguchi with one second left, and as much as I want to beat his face , he is incredible. He’s the exact guy you want as champion when it comes to performance. I’m likely to go together this one for sure.” Reduction to John Lineker”Oh man that has been enormous. I got too emotional; I showed the first round that I could definitely beat him. People were just like’Oh he’s a bantamweight’ I do not care; the guy still isn’t very good I should have beat him. I believe I showed that you are not going to knock me out even though you are a big puncher. My face is going to split open until you knock me out and that’s exactly what happened. With me it’s outside matters, they always distract me, woman issues or what have you. I just kind of dropped after that round. I’m smart enough to know I was going to lose that fight sitting backstage. Anthony Kiedis and Dane White came around and said hello and I am just kind of like, I’m screwed. This was a psychological thing, that’s always been my main downfall. I have a brand new mental coach, he’s my thoughts Sherpa. He is overall made me a much better person. So far as my optimism goes, he’s a large part of it.” Feeling Overlooked at Flyweight Division”I wouldn’t say overlooked, there is other people to talk about. I blew it with John; I screwed up in that struggle. So maybe I do not deserve to be talked about it. Let’s state this injury is 6 months, they’ll talk about me after that, that’s fine. You can find different people that deserve it. It does matter how good I can be or how good I am, it is not my turn. DJ needs individuals to struggle, the division needs people to shake and move and create a big jolt. I do not mind it, it’s cool, anything.” Raising a daughter as a single father”Yeah it’s not easy; realistically I don’t know anything about girls. I know how to get one in mattress that’s about it. I sit there sometimes and stare at her like’what’s going on?’ Don’t cut your hair, don’t put soap in areas, like I do not understand. Realistically I have a lot aid, I live together with my dad. My father got a divorce, he said move in, and I’ll assist you. My dad’s retired so he kind of plays mommy on a daily basis. My step mother is still around; my kid’s grandma is around so that I do have a lot of assistance. So I’m not going to say I am doing this alone, because I am not. It requires a village to raise a kid and I got a village of people around me. Even though there are days where I have to take her to the gym, there is always someone there. She is pretty damn independent I can take her to the shore; she can run about and swim on her own. She’s going to be fine.” UFC Reebok Uniforms”I’d like to work for a fashion design firm; the only fighters I hang out with are people I’m forced to hang out with or my buddies. I hang out with artists, fashion designers, artists and musicians and materials. They’re hideous, like Jose Aldo said we look like f***kin Power Rangers. The gear is really comfortable; obviously Reebok makes a great product. I don’t know who made the layout, no matter what generation we’re in 80’s 90’s, which doesn’t match anything, it is just awful. But perhaps I’m wrong; perhaps I am looking for something a little cooler looking. Its functionality based gear; that’s all that matters. It’s an evolution of the sport. We needed it to shine, sure we’re not going to get paid that much money but it’s what it is. In case you have a issue then quit, these are the amounts we have to manage. If you’re smart and you can market yourself and promote yourself in manners like I have. I have outside patrons; I’ve Layrite, which is similar to a hair and mustache merchandise. I’ve got a lot of clothes and lifestyle companies. I get a good deal of exposure from materials like that. People will need to know t to step away from the box, make money for themselves and have a smart agent” Thoughts on Reebok Deal”Yeah that would have been nice, but at the same time they run a small business. They run a multi-billion dollar company that’s a premiere sports league. If you find the machine that is the UFC, in the inside it is outstanding. The people are great; the company design is simply remarkable. I would never say anything bad about the way that it’s all operate, it’s amazing if you enjoy company. The thing is they did not need to consult with us since it’s their business. We’re a commodity; as far as I wish to say cool we should be making money such as baseball, soccer and basketball. Since we ought to we are actually putting our lives on the line. But we are not and I do not want to quote Urijah Faber, he said’I got into this for the money’ frankly I get it, I’m a businessman.” Outside sponsors”Financially I am going to be fine. I am going to find methods [to make money]. I have a portion of a social media company, I own a series I host called Direct Endorsement, also it is a big charity thing. I have other stuff that’s going to make me more money, so I’m going to be ok. I really do believe for guys that don’t have much else or men that aren’t that smart. But that is their own fault, figure out it it’s not rocket science.” Being on Joe Rogan’s”Fight Companion” show”Yeah I was speaking to Joe not too long ago. I’ve a developing friendship with Joe for a long time, we constantly talk about it but it is a little bit of a drive from my house with all the traffic. I’ll be up there soon, I must do some things in the region so that I’ll be on there shortly.” You follow Ian on Twitter @Unclecreepymma and his sponsor DirectEndorcements.com.
