Vegas Over/Under: 28.5
The Record Projection: 28-54 of fromal The Bet: lean although Prevent under
If any over/under mark seems right about the money, it’s the one place for the Sacramento Kings. But we’ll still lean ever so slightly toward the under, chiefly for reasons clarified by ESPN.com’s Kevin Pelton as he chased the Western Conference bottom-feeders to win just 27.4 games:
“Despite adding veterans Vince Carter, George Hill and Zach Randolph as free agents, the Kings are projected as the league’s second-worst offensive attack by RPM. Even though this isn’t part of the projection, few teams are going to have more incentive to boost their draft pick, as Sacramento will not have its first-rounder in 2019 because of trade.”
That incentive to tank is big, and it might not even be as impactful as the potential reduction of Randolph. Explaining a situation that could soon use to the veteran power forward, Ronald Tillery composed for The Commerical Appeal:”The team’s collective bargaining agreement with the players’ association states a player is going to be dismissed and disqualified from the NBA if he’s convicted of, or pleads guilty, no contest or nolo contendere to, a crime involving the felony distribution of marijuana”
Losing Randolph would thrust on moments on the Kings’ assortment of inexperienced players. And that is the theme of this roster, as management has done a praiseworthy job of establishing their coffers after the departure of DeMarcus Cousins.
That strategy won’t turn into wins yet.
